๐ Step-by-Step Procedures
Choose base 10, 100, 1000 depending on proximity. Example: numbers near 100 → base 100.
If number < base → complement with negative sign (-). If > base → positive (+). e.g., 98 → -2, 105 → +5.
LHS = cross addition or cross subtraction. If one above one below: LHS = A - b.
Multiply deviations. Product must occupy exactly digits equal to zeroes in base (base10→1digit, base100→2digits).
If RHS exceeds allowed digits, carry extra to LHS.
If RHS product is negative, write complement and adjust LHS.
Combine adjusted LHS and RHS. Example: 106 × 99 → 10494 ✅
❓ FAQ
A: LHS = cross subtraction (e.g., 98x97: deviations -2, -3 → LHS = 98-3=95, RHS = 6 → 9506)
A: If vertical multiplication gives negative product, use bar notation then de-vinculate.
A: Yes! RHS must occupy 4 digits. Same logic applies.
A: Absolutely! Solve 2-digit × 2-digit under 5 seconds mentally.
A: LHS = cross subtract, RHS = product of deviations (negative) then adjust.
